Break the Silence, Stop the Violence
The Globe International in cooperation with National
Center Against Violence has completed a project "Break
the silence, stop the violence" in March 2003 with
financial support of Save the Children Foundation, UK.
The project was aimed to assist in increasing public
participation in prevention and elimination of child
violence and foster their actions against child violence
using media power. The main objective was to raise public
awareness through wide media campaign in Dornod and
Bayanhongor aimags and newspaper rallies in UB in order
to achieve the following immediate objectives:
o Raise awareness of journalists equipping them with
knowledge on child violence issues
o Increase quality of journalism works introducing new
forms of modern journalism
o Encourage the public with open discussions offering
an opportunity to express their opinions and views on
TV screen
o Promote further cooperation between local team of
experts, child protection NGOs, local lawyers, NGOs,
journalists and authorities, and close collaboration
of local media outlets and NGOs working against child
violence.
The project was
implemented by a joint team of the Globe International
and NCAV and cooperated with 2 local experts team in
Bayanhongor and Dornod aimag consisted of 4 each.
Activities:
The project was
designed for running wide media campaign as one of efficient
forms of increasing public participation of citizens
influencing political decision making by taken actions.
Media campaign itself aimed to assist children to live
and study in better environment without violence and
encourage adults to gain awareness for it.

2 field trips
were organized to Dornod and Bayankhongor aimags.
Field trip was aimed to provide good preparation
and lobby key actors in the provinces such as media
managers, local NGOs, teachers and authorities.
During the trip experts organized individual meetings
and involved about 200 people.

Media Campaign
Topics covered by media campaign were selected during
the brainstorming meeting organized in the framework
of pilot project and local teams and experts carefully
discussed during the working meetings of the field
trips.
-Newspaper
rallies
A national daily Mongolyn Medee and 3 local newspapers
(UB Times, Dornod Times, Bayanhongoryn Medee) were involved
to the newspaper rallies and run 12 columns. Newspaper
publications are available at Globe International's
office.
-Radio rallies
Radio rallies involved 2 radio stations; Bayankhnogor
FM 102.5 and Eastern Regional Public Radio in Dornod
and aired 8 radio programs.

TV talk shows
2 TV stations; New Channel, Dornod and Bayanhongor TV
had produced 8 one- hour talk shows. Television talk
show was selected as the uniquely suitable and most
appropriate form of TV audience discussion programs
and it is growing in popularity and variety. Talk shows
invited 250 participants including 50 people (30 in
Bayankhongor, 20 in Dornod) and representatives of 28
suoms (15 soums in Bayankhongor and 13 soums in Dornod)
In Jaunary 2003 two experts from NCAV E.Khishigbayar,
Badamtsetseg and 2 experts from the Globe International
visited 2 target aimags before production of the first
2 talk shows and provided consultancies for LET on productions.
- Action Plan on Child
Protection
Local Experts' team members had drawn up Action
Plans on Child Protection and It was approved in
Bayankhongor aimag. Participants noted that Action
Plans are useful for sub-programs of National Child
Development Program issued by the Government just
before the round table.
